Methods
In this double-blind, randomized, clinical trial, we randomly assigned 14 dogs with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis receive low-dose topical application of 200 mg/d aspirin (or placebo) or control and followed them for 3 months. All dogs had to be spayed or castrated (before at 16 weeks of age). All dogs received an initial course of topical corticosteroids, oral vitamin E, and a course of an immune-suppressant, to exclude a possible effect of immune-suppression medications.
